Doug the Tool (Man)

The Ontario College of Trades was effectively gutted by Doug Ford in 2018. There has been ~ZERO provincial enforcement of whether the people working in licensed trades (including electricians, plumbers, mechanics, hairstylists) actually have credentials to do the work.

It’s generous to suggest this lack of enforcement is mere oversight. Ryan Whealy on behalf of Minister Monte McNaughton says inspectors have taken an “educational role” because “we heard loud and clear from workers and management that OCOT… was deeply politicized and ineffective.”

Yet another example of Doug Ford supposedly cutting through red tape while in fact worsening the landscape for properly credentialed skilled workers & consumers alike.

Check out CBC’s coverage of this issue. What good is a law if it doesn’t get enforced?
